Wow, Kids’ Closet has been here at The River for a decade! In ten years, we have been amazed time and time again at the way God takes what little we bring and multiplies it exponentially. Kids’ Closet wouldn’t be celebrating its tenth year if it wasn’t for the generosity of The River, and we could never thank you enough. We operate solely on the clothing and toy donations that you bring in, and we are grateful to be able to pass that blessing on to families right in our community and neighborhood.

Our goal has always been to reach into our community to meet a need that many parents face. We want to make sure that our children always have well-fitting clothing, even when times are hard financially. We also encourage all of our participants to bring clothes their children have grown out of to “swap”, giving them ownership and an ability to participate as well.

This year, we had so many new families come to Kids’ Closet. We’ve learned that our regular shoppers love to bring friends, neighbors and family members with them, and word continues to spread. It is amazing to see the children who come to Kids’ Closet growing up. Our babies from 10 years ago now shop in our teen rooms!

Our Back To School Event was the biggest event we’ve ever had! We gave away 140 backpacks filled with new school supplies and ran out within the first two hours. We had more children than ever before sign up for free haircuts, and had two new hairstylists who volunteered their time for the day. In December, we gave away over 120 sets of hats and gloves to children in our community during our Keep Kids Warm event. We also had the highest number of families come to Kids’ Closet on the day before Easter, during The River’s Egg Hunt.
The Week of Hope campers once again blessed Kids’ Closet this summer; remodeling our final room and sorting all of our donations before we closed down for the summer. We already can’t wait for them to come back next summer.
